The feel-good American football movie "Invincible" beat newcomers "Crank" and "The Wicker Man" to top the box office over Labor Day weekend, according to final figures released on Tuesday.
This is the second week that "Invincible" topped the box office in the U.S.
The inspirational movie about a 30-year-old bartender-turned football player brought in 15.4 million dollars over the Friday-to-Monday period, according to Encino-based box office tracker Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc.
"Crank," about a professional killer, debuted in second place with a 12.9 million dollars, followed by "The Wicker Man" at 11.7 million dollars.
"Little Miss Sunshine" slipped one place to fourth, bringing in 9.6 million dollars, while "The Illusionist" (8.1 million dollars)climbed up the box office ladder from 14th to fifth place.
Rounding out the top 10 were "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" (7.6 million dollars); "Barnyard The Original Party Animals" (6.6 million); "World Trade Center" (6.7 million); "Accepted" (5.6 million) and "Step Up" (5.6 million).
The top 12 grossing films this Labor Day weekend brought in 98.7 million dollars over the four-day period, up one percent from last year's 97.7 million.
