A failed female suicide bomber was sentenced to death on Thursday by a Jordanian court for trying to take part in attacks that killed over 60 people in Amman last year, said security sources.

Sajida al-Rishawi, an Iraqi woman who was paraded on state television confessing to her involvement in the Nov. 9 last year the bombing of three Amman hotels, is the only one of eight accused to appear in court since the trial opened in April.

However, the Iraqi woman in the court has pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to carry out the blasts causing death and destruction, and illegal possession of weapons and explosives. On July 12, the state prosecutor had called for the death penalties for Rishawi and the seven other accused, which are either on the run or dead, including top al-Qaida operative Abu Musab al-Zarqawi who was killed in a U.S. raid in Iraq in June.

The sources said that security was tight around the courthouse in east Amman, where reporters were prohibited from taking in mobile phones and camera equipment.
