An official from the Chinese Embassy in Russia said Tuesday that seven Chinese were confirmed to have been injured in the Moscow market explosion.

Chinese Counsellor Wang Zhen said according to the reports from Russian Foreign Ministry, up to 20:00 local time (1600 GMT) on Monday, seven Chinese were injured in the explosion. Of the seven, one was in critical conditions, another seriously injured, four others moderately injured, and the remaining one suffered only light injuries.

But the embassy has not received any official information from the Russian authorities about deaths of Chinese people, Wang told Xinhua.

Russia's Information Agency, citing Moscow city Prosecutor Yury Syomin, reported earlier that the dead included five Chinese nationals and one Vietnamese citizen. The nationalities of the others killed in the blast had not yet been confirmed.

Eight people, including two children, were killed when the explosion hit the Eurasian section of Cherkizovsky market in northeast Moscow on Monday morning, and the other two died at hospital. The explosion also wounded 55 others.

The bomb was a home-made device and contained over 1 kg of TNT explosive, Russian officials said.
