Wen vows all-round reform, opening up

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao vowed in Beijing to press ahead with all-round reform and opening up on the eve of the 57th anniversary of the People's Republic of China's on October 1.

Addressing the National Day reception in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Wen said China had created a historic miracle by achieving nearly three decades of rapid and sustainable economic growth and all-round social development.

"We are committed to reform and opening up, this is irreversible." Wen said at the reception attended by more than 1,500 Chinese and foreign personages and senior officials, including Chinese President Hu Jintao, and general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Wu Bangguo.

"China will unswervingly push reform and opening up with all-around economic, political, cultural and social reform, emancipate and develope the productive forces, improve socialist democracy and law." Wen said.

He pointed out that China would become a prosperous, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious modern socialist country if it adhered to the path of scientific development.

The premier highlighted the need to encourage a hard-working spirit to create a better future, since the construction of modernization is longtime arduous task which requires the enthusiasm and diligence of the whole society.

He also stressed the government's resolve to fight against corruption.

The central government would continue to work with Hong Kong and Macao people to ensure their prosperity and stability, to make efforts with Taiwan compatriots to achieve national reunification and work with the international community for a peaceful, prosperous and harmonious world, he said.
