A celebration reception was held in Beijing Thursday (Sep 28th) to mark the 57th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China attended by over 4,000 personages from Beijing, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas.
Jia Qinglin, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, delivered a speech at the reception.
After reviewing the major progress achieved in economic and social development, Jia said the Chinese mainland will continue to work with Hong Kong and Macao to implement the principles of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" and "Macao people governing Macao" to bring the two region a better future.
As to the Taiwan issue, he said the Chinese government will stick to the one-China principle and never give up the cause to work for peace reunification and oppose separatist forces.
He also thanked overseas Chinese for their contributions to the country's opening-up, modernization drive and national reunification.
Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong and Vice Premier Huang Ju, also two members of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau's Standing Committee, attended the reception.
