The campaign to raise money for tsunami victims received a boost Tuesday (Jan. 4) when the leaders and government workers of Guangdong Province dug deep to help.

Thousands of government workers make their donations yesterday afternoon. The money is deposited in the accounts of local charity federation and will be transferred to the China Charity Federation (CCF), who will send the money to tsunamis-hit areas.

The Provincial Charity Community opened the 24-hour donation hotline and banking account to the public the day before yesterday. More than 6 million yuan have been donated by both the government offices and the citizen in less than three days, and the first donation cheque will reach the tsunamis-hit areas on next Monday.

The local branch of Red Cross Society of China received nearly 400,000 yuan by yesterday afternoon. Most donators are elderly and children.
