The Guangzhou Tap Water Company will continue to invest RMB 93.5 million to promote the drinking water purification project. By the end of the year 2.14 million people will be able to drink "purified drinking water".

The Urban Planning Department has said that the quality of the tap water of the city conforms to the national hygiene standards and people can drink the water at ease.

As of May 2007, over 1.4 million people in the city have been using "purified drinking water". The Guangzhou Tap Water Company will continue to implement the drinking water purification project at the water supply area of the Nanzhou Water Plant. Since the end of May 2007, Nanzhou barreled drinking water has been in the market. Nine parameters are higher than the EU's water quality standards. The retail price of 18.9L barreled water is only RMB 9, which is the lowest price in the  barreled water market. Also, the Xintang and Xizhou Water Plants will continue to adopt new technologies. By the end of 2009, the water quality of the Xintang and Xizhou Water Plants will be able to conform the water quality standards for "purified drinking water".
