On May 16, Mr. Arturo Claver Martinez, Tourism Counsellor of the Embassy of Spain in China, led tourism officials from 10 Spanish regional tourism bureaus, such as Barcelona, Andalusia and Madrid, to Guangzhou to promote Spanish tourism.
Mr. Claver Martinez said that Spain will set up an Embassy office in Guangzhou to solve visa application problems for Guangzhou citizens. Other tourists to Spain from Southern China may handle their visas in Guangzhou as well. At present, Guangzhou citizens need to trust travel agencies to handle their visas at the Spanish Embassy in Beijing.
Spain attracted 58 million foreign tourists last year, ranking No. 2 in the world, among which Chinese tourists accounted for 22,000, making China an important tourist resources fo Spain and one that is growing fast.
