However, "helping parents washing their feet" was selected as the most unwanted thing to do by the Guangzhou children to show their love to their parents, according to a survey done before Mother's Day.

The survey also found 84 percent of the parents thought that the children nowadays are not grateful for what their parents have done for them, 59 percent thought the children are spoiled.

For most children, "to be grateful" is simply to thank the people who have helped them. And 76 percent of children said they need instructions from their parents and teachers on how to thank others. Experts said the children's understanding on "being grateful" was too narrow and they should learn to help both people they know and strangers that they have never met.
