Guangdong has stepped up efforts to produce more nuclear power during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10) period by strengthening the projects under construction and the pre-stage construction of nuclear power project in plan.
The provincial nuclear power construction leading group and experts have listed a number of targets:
The second phase of Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2010;

Zhong Yangsheng, executive deputy governor of the province, said recently that the development of nuclear power industry must combine the national demand and the actual needs of the province since the industry involves various sectors, industries and requires strong policy support.
Currently, nuclear power stations in the province are operating safely and the construction of the second phase of Ling'ao Nuclear Power Station is being carried out smoothly. The pre-stage work of the continuing projects of Taishan Yaogu nuclear power station is going ahead without a hitch. The work of choosing the sites for inland nuclear power station and other continuing power plants is going on smoothly.
"All these have laid a solid foundation and provided new impetus for the sustainable and healthy development of the nuclear power industry in Guangdong," Zhong said.
He said that the province would strengthen the nuclear power sector's innovation ability .
It will also pay attention to the pre-stage work of new nuclear power project as well as its auxiliary power grid construction projects, he said.
In addition, the province will greatly push forward the development of the nuclear power equipment industry, actively promote the development of the nuclear fuel cycling industry and enhance the management of the engineering construction.
Zhong said the provincial government would pay close attention to the training of professionals, strengthen international exchanges and cooperation and expand nuclear power field to ensure the smooth development of the industry.
In 2006, the four million-kilowatt N-power stations in the province created a record in its power transmission to the grid. The province's power equipment manufacturing industry made breakthrough in large-scale nuclear power equipment and high-voltage transformation and transmission equipment manufacturing.
