In June, Guangdong will build the Guangdong part of a new expressway linking Shaoguan (a city in North Guangdong) and Ganzhou (provincial capital of Jiangxi Province), reports Guangzhou Daily.
The Guangdong part of Shaoguan-Ganzhou Expressway has 130 kilometers. The 6-lane close expressway is designed for a speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
7 billion RMB is planed for investment in the building of the expressway, 80% from the Highway Bureau of Guangdong Province and 20% from the Shaoguan Municipal government.
The expressway is due to open to traffic in February 2009. It will become the most convenient route for vehicles from East China to enter the PRD region via North Guangdong.
So far the Guangdong-Ganzhou Expressway is the only expressway linking Guangdong and Jiangxi Provinces.
By 2010, Guangdong will build 11 highways accessing other provinces.
