A British study found that Guangzhou people are walking 20 percent faster than 20 years before and their walking pace ranks the 4th in the world. Singaporean walks the fastest, followed by pedestrians in Copenhagen, Denmark and Madrid, Spain.
The study, jointly done by the University of Hertfordshire in London and the British Council, measured how long it took 70 unknowing pedestrians to walk 18m.
On Aug 22 last year, British Council officials across 32 cities clocked pedestrians' walking speeds between 11.30am and 2pm.
Experts said faster walking pace was related to busier work, which might accompany with less family time and sporting time, and even bad behaviors, such as smoking and irregular dining time. And these behaviors would cause health deterioration.

2 Copenhagen (Denmark) 10.82
3 Madrid (Spain) 10.89
4 Guangzhou (China) 10.94
7 Berlin (Germany) 11.16
8 New York (USA) 12
