During the upcoming May Day holidays or "May Day Golden Week", minors will be able to enjoy special discounts in Guangzhou's museums, galleries, science museums, memorials, commemoration halls of martyrs, and residences of famous people, Fang Zhiqi, Deputy Secretary of the Guangzhou Bureau of Culture's CPC Committee, said at the April 24th news conference.
During the Week, special services will be provided in museums and memorials. The Nanyue Palace ruins will extend its opening hours from 10 am to 5:00pm, with at least four times (possibly six times with the help of volunteers) the amount of free guide services per day. Glass houses will be set up to show how to maintain & preserve cultural treasures.
Cultural Offices of the city's 12 districts (county-level cities) are to organize 13 performances. Over 1,000 participants/performers will bring 100 programs to more than 100,000 audience members without charge. All the programs have been created and arranged by local artists.
In addition to the above mentioned performances, the city's more than 160 Cultural Rooms will organize more than 300 activities, such as group Yangge (popular rural folk dance), disco, karaoke and aerobics, at 191 Cultural Plazas. A variety of cultural activities will be organized in all districts.
