The zoning control plan for Datansha Island in Liwan District has recently passed a preliminary review by the municipal zoning authority. Zhou Yawei, Chief of the Liwan District Government, describes Datansha Island, an area of about three times the size of Ersha Island, as a virgin island on the way to becoming a hot destination of investment for commercial, tourism, leisure and the entertainment industries. He revealed that resettlement of residents is underway to make way for the construction of various modern facilities, including a yacht club, a five-star river-view hotel, an international TV production center, and large-scale commercial and establishments providing financial services.
Datansha Island is one of three islands in downtown Guangzhou, the other two being Shamian Island and Ersha Islands, sitting where the three rivers meet, and surrounded by wide stretches of water. With about 4.4 sq km in area, it's about three times as large as Ersha Island.
Mr. Zhou stated that the development of Datansha Island, which is strategically located in the heart of Liwan District, will strongly facilitate the economic takeoff of the Bai'etan area.
