Consulate General of the Republic of France in Guangzhou, together with French-speaking countries' Consulate Generals, including Belgium, Cambodia, Canada and Switzerland, and Guangzhou's French Training Center, jointly organized the "French-Language Week" activities, which were held from March 10 to 24.
These are the first cultural activities in China held by French-speaking countries. The organizers hoped that these activities would provide an opportunity for Chinese people to learn more about French culture and feel its charm.
France, Switzerland, Canada, Belgium Consuls General attended the opening ceremony on the evening of February 10 and delivered speeches.
Chinese and foreign guests from the political, business, cultural and educational sectors gathered together, speaking in French. A group of lovely children of different nationalities sang French, Chinese and African songs. Their excellent performance won warm applause.
While enjoying French wine provided by the SOPEXA (French Food Association) and exquisite snacks, guests appreciated the performances. The atmosphere in the conference hall was warm and pleasant. Mr. Daniel Blaize, French Consul General in Guangzhou, was able to speak fluent Putonghua. He said that March 20 is celebrated around the world as French Speaking Day. French-language activities used to be held in Beijing and Shanghai, but only for one day.
