The Guangzhou Workers' Lantern Riddles Association will hold the largest ever Lantern Festival Riddle Carnival, to be called "The Peach Garden Riddle Maze" at the GrandView Plaza, in Guangzhou from March 2 to 4, 2007.
The lantern riddles are a kind of art form of our folk literature with more than 3,000 years of history. Guangzhou's lantern riddle programs blossomed in the late 1980's and went descending gradually since. In 2006, the long-departed lantern riddle carnivals re-opened at the Wenhua Park after 15 years' absence attracting hundreds of thousands citizens to participate. There will be over 3,000 riddles in this year's lantern riddle carnival.
At 0630 p.m. of February 28, 2007, the annual Wenhua Park Lantern Festival Riddle Carnival officially lighted its' lanterns. This theme of this Carnival focuses on the traditional folkways and conventions practiced in Guangdong during the Spring Festival represented by several sets of ancient Cantonese folk traditions. The Wenhua Park will continue as always to welcome visitors with the low ticket price of RMB 3 during this Lantern Festival Riddle Carnival.
