At the National Science and Technology Awards Conference held on the morning of February 27th, 2007, the "Energy-saving, Environmental Protection and Security Technology Integration and Application Project of the Guangzhou Metro Line 2" won the Second Prize of the  2006 National Science and Technology Progress.

This project was one of three projects that were nominated by Guangdong Province to win the prize. It was also the highest honor awarded to Guangzhou in the field of science and technology in 2006.

The National Science and Technology Awards is widely known as the "Oscar Awards" of China's science and technology circle. Guangzhou Metro accordingly became the first enterprise to win the national science and technology award among China's city metro-operators.
