According to news released by Guangzhou Customs on Jan 25, the net revenue of tariff and value added tax of Guangzhou customs district in Jan 2007 has reached 3.18 billion RMB, which also created a new single-month record. An increase of 1.351 billion RMB had been achieved, which represents a 73.85% rise over the 1.829 billion in Jan 2006.
It has been noted that the growing imports are the major reason for the new record. The state foreign trade administration has been step by step shifting its focus from fast-growing export to balanced import and export. In Jan 2007, the import value into Guangzhou Customs District reached 2.43 billion US dollars, which grew by 27% net and by 35% over the same time last year. The value of general trade, which is a major source of customs revenue, grew by 40% and reached 1.12 billion US dollars in Jan. As the regions in Pearl River Delta, North Guangdong and West Guangdong continue to improve their manufacturing and investment conditions, the import of energy and raw materials continues to grow rapidly, which has also increased the customs revenue substantially.
