Families, enterprises and agricultural irrigation in Guangdong Province will be given a two-year quota on water use from March 1, 2007. Consumption over quota will be double charged, as Guangzhou Daily reports.

The quota is jointly drafted by the Guangdong Provincial Water Resources Department, Development and Reform Commission and Economic Commission.

The quota, as a part of a provincial plan to save water consumption, has surveyed 2,000 industrial and agricultural enterprises, as well as families. Public opinions on the proposed water consumption quota were solicited by the authorities after the survey.
