According to the Transport Facilities Planning, newly released by the Guangzhou Urban Planning Bureau, by 2010 citizens can get to 45 metro stations by multiple transport means. 16 bus parking lots, 15 car parking lots and 35 bicycle parking lots are to be built near the metro stations. Citizens will be able to get to the metro stations by car, bus or bicycle.
Nineteen tram routes, totaling 726km, will be established in Guangzhou. 200km of tram tracks will be completed by 2010, and the tracks will be extended 40km per year. After the banning of motorcycles in Guangzhou, the passenger transport structure of the city changed greatly. It is necessary and urgent to actively promote the planning and construction of Guangzhou transport facilities and to connect metro stations and other transport facilities, so as to provide more convenience for citizens.
In 2006, the Guangzhou Urban Planning Bureau, the Guangzhou Communications and Transportation Committee and Guangzhou Metro Company sought advice on transport management from the Guangzhou Traffic Planning Institute, Japan CFK Engineering Consulting, and other domestic and international consulting corporations. After research and discussion, the Transport Facilities Planning and the implementation proposal were established.
The planning will promote the construction of public transport systems, reduce the use of personal transport, and optimize the passenger transport structures.
The Guangzhou Urban Planning Bureau and Guangzhou Metro Company have chosen Kongkou, Nanpu, Hanxichanglong and Haipan Stations to pilot the new measures.
