A funeral parlor in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, has received more than 200 applicants for fewer than 10 jobs since it began running an advertisement four days ago.
The high monthly salary (15,000 yuan, or $1,929) and good benefits have attracted university students and master's degree holders in a city where the current employment situation is rather grim. Most of the employees of the parlor are now driving their own cars to work. The salary competes well with local senior managers of foreign-funded companies and joint ventures.
