A recent salary research report issued by Mercer Human Resource Consulting shows that mainland salaries rose by 7.94 percent on average in 2006.
According to the report, Shanghai tops the list with a salary increase rate of 7.7 percent followed by Guangzhou with 7.6 percent and Beijing with 7.2 percent. Industries such as petrochemical and Internet witnessed the biggest salary growth rate last year at about 8.3 percent.
From the perspective of staff levels, the middle and senior executives saw the largest increase rate at about 8.5 percent. However, these executives also saw a high dismissal rate, way more than the market's average at about 31 percent. Mercer expects salaries to rise at about 7.7 percent on the mainland this year.
