Guangzhou has become a true shoppers' paradise! Its sales of commodities in 2006 are expected to exceed RMB 218 billion, earning it the third position for the 19th year, among the top ten Chinese cities. The retail sales of commodities are 14.5 percent higher than over the same period last year (growth rate of 2005: 13.2 percent), reaching the highest level since 1998.

In 2006, meat and vegetable markets were renewed and convenience stores were established in rural areas. Moreover, emphasis was put on the development of high and medium-grade wholesale markets, chain stores, logistics and E-business. More and more retailers are now entering the Guangzhou market.
