A 2,000-year-old Chinese yew is the major drawcard of a new theme park that opened to the public on Monday in Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, in the northern part of Guangdong Province.
The Nanfang Chinese Yew Theme Park has dubbed the tree the "King of Chinese yews." It is over 5 metres in diameter and reaches 15 metres high.
The theme park covers an area of over 200 hectares and features more than 30,000 Chinese yews, with 1,000 older than 1,000 years.
The Chinese yew is a rare tree under State protection. It is commonly known as the "panda" of trees.
