Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport has been praised by the World Health Organization (WHO) for its all-round cleanliness.
The airport has passed the review for "International Sanitary Airport," a title awarded by the WHO, the airport announced yesterday at Wuzhou Guest House.
WHO representatives conferred the title yesterday, after a four-member panel comprising two WHO officials and two officials from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine completed a two-day inspection of food, environment, sewage and garbage treatment facilities as well as the airport's health facilities. It was the first time the WHO had reviewed the airport since 2000.
The WHO first awarded the "International Sanitary Airport" certificate to the Shenzhen airport in May 2000, and the airport was the first Asian airport to win the title. To date only seven Chinese airports have won the certificate.
Since 2000, the airport has tripled its capacity in handling waste and doubled its capacity in treating sewage.
