Two migrant workers rushed into fire in a grocery store in Bao'an District on Sunday night and saved a senior couple and their grandson who were trapped inside, Tuesday's Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

The couple suffered minor burns on their arms and legs, and the boy suffered burns on his forehead and arms. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The couple were discharged from hospital while the boy is still being treated, the paper said.

The fire broke out in the grocery store in the Fenghuang housing community in Fuyong Subdistrict at about 9:30 p.m. Heavy, dark smoke rising from the store attracted hundreds of onlookers.

Hearing shouts for help from inside the store, two men in the crowd rushed into the little store and rescued the two seniors. One of the two rushed back inside for the trapped boy, while the other called the 120 emergency hotline for an ambulance, the Daily report said.

The fire was extinguished shortly afterwards. The elderly male victim, identified by his surname Long, said the fire was caused by a short circuit when he was watching TV with his wife and grandson. The two men also accompanied the couple and the boy to hospital and paid for their medical expenses, according to Long.

The paper said the two men are migrants from Guizhou Province. One of them, aged 36 and surnamed Lu, said they didn't think twice when they heard shouts for help coming from inside the store.
