Chen Xiaoning, Vice president of Guangdong Airport Management Corporation, said that to actively participate in market competition, a series constructions on freight infrastructures will be carried out at the airport.

A 520 thousand ton annual throughput international cargo station and a new international cargo station for FedEx, will be completed in 2007 and 2008 respectively. The third airport runway will begin construction in 2008. Moreover, a tax free zone involving processing & logistics will be built north of the FedEx hub, with an area of 6.6 square kilometers for the early stage.

The annual air freight of the Pearl River Delta has now exceeded 5 million tons. There are two domestic air cargo stations at Baiyun International Airport, one about 100,000 square meters and the other 60,000 square meters.

By 2010, Baiyun International Airport is expected to reach a passenger throughput of 38 to 40 million people, and a cargo & mail throughput of 1.6 to 2 million tons.
