>>>Special Report: 100th Canton Fair
Numerous merchants came out of the CECF exhibition halls, putting sudden pressure on traffic. The Traffic officials on the spot speedily expanded the loading stations to a four- lane highway so as to make sure that these merchants could take a taxi within ten minutes, once they walked out of the exhibition halls. On October 17, over 5,000 taxis went to Pazhou and Liuhua exhibition halls to pick up merchants and there was a small increase of merchants taking subways in good order as compared with that of October 16.
According to Mr. Zhaohui, Vice Chief of the Inspection Division of Communications Commission of Guangzhou Municipality, 3,380 taxis were dispatched to Pazhou Complex the day before yesterday and some taxis were still unoccupied at 7 pm when all the merchants left.
It is learned from Guangzhou Metro Company that the number of merchants taking subways during October 15 to 17 basically kept at a daily balance. The Metro Company sent scores more staff, who can speak foreign languages, to the stations and set up consulting posts to provide free consulting services for the merchants. The relevant principal of Metro Company said that they added two more trains to meet the needs of current freight volume on October 17.
