VICE Mayor Zhang Siping asked the Guangzhou-Shenzhen railway authorities Wednesday (Oct 11th) to make public their plan for selling train tickets next Spring Festival ahead of time so that the general public can air their views on ticket sales.

Zhang made the instruction while meeting officials from the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway, Thursday's Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Zhang said the Shenzhen Railway Station has improved its operating capability in recent years by overcoming many obstacles and taking measures such as booking tickets through phone. He ordered that the railway authorities publicize their plan for selling tickets next Spring Festival so as to seek opinions and suggestions from the public in an open and transparent way. The vice mayor also expressed his hope that more temporary trains will be run on more routes to meet the needs of passengers.

Officials with the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway said the Shenzhen Railway currently operates 20 pairs of long-distance trains daily with a passenger-handling capacity of 13,900 people. This can only meet the needs of passengers during the off-season. For the golden weeks and the Spring Festival, the capacity is utterly inadequate, the officials said. The operating capability of the Shenzhen Railway reached 56,000 people during the Spring Festival this year. However, the enhanced capability was far from enough and the supply of tickets fell short of demand to a great extent.

The Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway is stepping up its efforts to build the North Passenger Train Station, the Auxiliary Passenger Train Station in Buji and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway Line 4, the Daily report said. Upon the completion of these projects, the operating capability of the Shenzhen Railway will be enhanced, making it possible for the operation of more long-distance trains.

From January to September this year, the Shenzhen Railway transported 10.10 million passengers, a record high. Among the 10.10 million passengers, 3.8 million people traveled on long-distance trains, an increase of 9 percent over the same period of last year.
