According to information released by the Guangzhou Economic and Trade Commission yesterday (Oct. 9), Guangzhou is focusing on moving industrial companies out of downtown and developing the service industry there instead.

The industrial projects, which are identified as unsuitable for a city with an intensive population, will be shifted to Guangdong's mountainous areas and eastern and western wings. To relocate these displaced industrial companies, Guangzhou government is investing 3.8 billion yuan to build 8 industrial parks in planned areas.

Guangzhou vice Mayor Gan Xin believes that this move will optimize Guangzhou's industrial structure and activate economy in the less-developed eastern and western regions. Gan stressed that all the relocated companies must meet the requirements of the local environmental protection policies and be built in accordance to modern standards.
