The World Dental Federation (FDI) successfully concluded its first-ever congress in China yesterday, with around 60,000 people attending the four-day meeting in Shenzhen.

Michele Aerden, president of the federation, said the Shenzhen congress was the largest FDI meeting ever held. "Everyone I met has given very positive comments on the meeting. I would like to congratulate and thank Shenzhen for holding such a wonderful meeting," she said.

JT Barnard, FDI executive director, said he thought the welcoming ceremony was "outstanding," the exhibitions "interesting," and the lectures "world-class." "Dentists from 96 countries and regions came for the congress. When they go home, they must have a good memory of Shenzhen and the fabulous meeting," he said.

Barnard said the congress formulated six new public health policies concerning the promotion of dental health. "We will circulate them to all members of FDI. These valuable statements formed in Shenzhen will be adopted by dentists in more than 140 countries," he said.

Luan Wenmin, vice president of Chinese Stomatological Association, said the attendance was the highest in recent years, and the welcoming ceremony was very impressive.

Luan also said that the latest oral technology and high-quality lectures presented in Shenzhen would definitely boost the development of the dental sector in Shenzhen and the rest of China.
