"The survey shows that 54% of respondents go out by motor vehicle, and 60% of them choose bus, in contrast to the 38% of who prefer walking." A survey on Guangzhou citizens' means of transportation has been launched for two years, and its result was released on Sept. 22, 2006. Compared with the 1980s, the most popular means of transportation, bicycle, has become obsolete in many fashionable people's eyes. Currently, buses, private cars and motorcycles can be seen everywhere on the streets. Surprisingly, some 38% of Guangzhou citizens choose to walk on a trip to a place.
Twenty years ago, underground railways, private cars or buses were seldom seen in the city, and more than 34.02% of Guangzhou citizens chose bicycle as their main means of transportation at that time. However, only 8.17% still use bicycles in the urban area now.
