The 9th plenary of the joint conference between Guangdong and Hong Kong will be held on August 2. Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang arrived in Guangzhou on August 1 for the meeting. Cooperation on environmental protection will be the top agenda of this conference.
Prior to the conference, Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau held a press conference yesterday reviewing achievements made during the 10th Five Plan period, from 2000 to 2005. Guangdong and Hong Kong have worked closely in 4 fields, including air quality control, forest and ocean resource management, water protection, and energy saving & clean production.
An air supervision network covering the Pear River Delta has been established, consisting of 16 supervision spots in Guangdong and Hong Kong. Guangdong has taken measures to reduce the emission of air pollutants, including rules applying to small coal-fueled and petrol-fueled generators with a capacity smaller than 135,000 kilowatts, which are not allowed to be built in Guangdong.
