Nanfang Daily has reported that up to now, the torrential rainstorms and flooding unleashed by Typhoon Bilis killed 33 people in Guangdong, as swirling waters swept away homes and forced the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people.
The flooding also cut the main Beijing-Guangzhou railway line, stranding 88 trains. Nearly 10,000 workers were busy repairing the track.
Secretary of Guangdong CPC Committee Zhang Dejiang requested that related departments spare no efforts in fighting floods and helping the victims in flood stricken areas.
Typhoon Bilis has been plaguing Guangdong since July 14th. Cities of Chaozhou, Huizhou, Meizhou, Shantou, Heyuan, Qingyuan and Jieyang were severely hit by the typhoon which has an effect on an estimated 1.32 million people. Local weather reports say that heavy rains would continue in Guangdong for the next few days.
