40 Doha Asian Games' Guangzhou torch bearers and 10 backup torch bearers were randomly selected out of 117 candidates by computer yesterday (July 6).
Another 40 torch bearers recommended by the Chinese Olympic Committee and Guangzhou Sports Bureau were also announced.
Most of the recommended are elite representatives of different sectors and industries including Zhong Nanshan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
All the names will be publicized on the Guangzhou Municipality's official website, www.gz.gov.cn, and major print media from July 6 to 12. The torch bearers will receive a series of professional running training beginning July 18.
The Doha Asian Games' torch passing will be held in Guangzhou on October 25. 80 torch bearers will take part in the 23-kilometer relay running with a 1.5-kilogram torch in hand. Each participant will run about 400 meters.
