More than 40 French expatriates and their families celebrated a French music festival Tuesday at the foreign experts village in Guangdong Nuclear Power Station in Daya Bay.
The music festival, an annual fixture in June, has been held by the French experts working for the nuclear power plant since 2000. The French people work for France Electric Power Co., Areva and Siemens.
At the party, the French men and women, sang popular French songs, danced and played the piano and clarinet.
Sunny Yang, the Chinese wife of French expert Laurant Bossu, sang a Chinese song and her friend played an ancient string instrument.
"It is the first time we enjoy Chinese songs and musical instrument performances in such a festival and it is really amazing," said a pianist, Jean Christophe Fournel.
Most of the French people have been in Shenzhen for more than one year and they enjoy Chinese culture very much. They had decorated the hall with Chinese knots and characters.
"It is great to see our traditional French music festival blended with more Chinese elements," said one of the organizers, Jean Narie Rondead.
While the French women had prepared French cakes and pizza for the party, the Chinese wives brought Chinese food like spring roll.
"We enjoy the life in Daya Bay and hope French community in this area have more activities," said Daniel Tranchant, doctor of the foreign experts village.
Nearly 60 foreign experts live in the foreign experts village including French, Geman, American and Korean experts. There are more than 300 French people living in Shenzhen, according to the French Consulate in Guangzhou.
