A primary school student was killed and another one injured after being struck by a piece of falling glass in Nanshan District on Wednesday, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.

The two boys, Grade 4 classmates in a primary school, were on their way back home on Haide Road 2 when a piece of 10-millimeter-thick glass the size of a tabloid newspaper struck them at about 6 p.m., the report said.

According to the survivor surnamed Huang, the glass hit his classmate, knocking him on to the ground. Some shards pierced Huang's leg. Huang's classmate was confirmed dead in hospital at 8 p.m., the report said.

The piece of glass is suspected to have fallen from a high-rise building 10 meters away, the report said.

Wtinesses said five hours before the accident a piece of glass fell from a building on the other side of the road, which fortunately did not cause injuries.

Further investigation is under way.
