New rules about the new weather disaster warning signal came into effect today (June 1). The number of new warning signals increased from four to 10.
The new categories are thunderstorms and winds, heavy fog, haze, hail, forest fire and road icing. Four colors - blue, yellow, orange and red - signify different threat levels, with red the most serious.
In addition, the new regulations describe official responses for different circumstances.
For example, education departments should arrange class suspension in middle and primary schools in the case of the orange typhoon signal, while the red typhoon signal means an emergency, and requires schools and businesses to suspend operations and people to stay in safe places.
