Today (May 31) is World No-Tobacco Day and this year's theme is tobacco is eating up our lives. Guangdong Health Education Research Institute yesterday publicized the result of the latest resident smoking habit survey.
The result shows that over 50 percent of male residents aged 20 to 30 in Guangdong smoke. One out of four men aged from 10 to 20 smoke, which means the smoking percentage in this demographic group is up to 27 percent indicating that male smokers tend to start the habit younger.
The survey also shows that over half of the smokers mainly smoke cigarettes at home. 55 percent of women aged over 15 are daily passive smokers. 71 percent of residents have the potential threat of being a passive smoker. In addition, only 13 percent of smokers successfully quit the habit.
