It was learned from Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that "6 koalas had completed all the quarantine checks and had passed the quarantine period successfully", which means the first 6 koalas introduced into Mainland China are available for public show.
During the 30-day waiting period, many citizens called in to inquire the date for the official public showing of these koalas. With a view to the fact these koalas need a course to gradually recover and be familiar with tourists after the quarantine period, the Xiangjiang Safari Park decided to open only to some well organized tours so that the koalas could build up their trust of tourists gradually. Therefore, the official public show is expected at the end of June or at the beginning of July.
The three winners of the "Koalas Guessing Competition" and their families were specially invited by the Park to be the first tourists to see in person these "most adorable animals in the world".
To celebrate their arrival in China for a month, the Park specially decorated a huge "eucalypt cake" on May 26, on which children put eucalypt branches and leaves. As soon as these koalas were carried out for the "cake", people swarmed to take pictures. The Park staff had to keep reminding people to, "Keep your distance, don't get them scared!". These little koalas did not seem afraid of people as they looked around.
