Guangdong (Shenzhen) Dapeng LNG Project, the nation's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) importation project, has completed construction one month ahead of schedule, and the first 125,000-ton LNG shipment is set to arrive in Shenzhen on May 25 from Australia.
The project is expected to supply Guangdong province with over 3.7 million tons of LNG per year for the coming 25 years after the project becomes operational in the end of this June. Trunk lines will deliver the environment-friendly fuel to the cities of Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou and Foshan in the Pearl River Delta region at the initial phase, according to a working conference about the province's plan for LNG using in the "11th five-year plan" period.

Another LNG project in Zhuhai, a city on the west bank of Pearl River, has kicked off construction. The project involves an investment of 8 billion RMB and is expected to ship about 3 million tons of LNG annually.
A LNG network around the Pear River Delta (PRD) will be built after the construction of these two projects, which will supply environment-friendly fuel for half residents in Guangdong province.
Zhong Yangsheng, Executive Vice Governor of Guangdong Province said, the using of LNG will help easing energy shortage in the province and will also a move in "resource-efficient and environment friendly society" campaign.
