Firemen are going to extinguish a chemical warehouse fire in Tianhe district of Guangzhou city on May 10, 2006.
A chemical warehouse fire at 22:00 yesterday (May 10) forced about 7000 residents in Tianhe district of Guangzhou city to evacuate. No person was confirmed dead according to official from Guangzhou Work Safety Administration.
A firefighter was serious injured and 49 people hospitalized for medical observation. The fire was under controlafter burning for 3 hours.
The SO2 generated by the fire is toxic and the people living nearby were all asked to leave the place.
Thousands of students from a vocational training college near the warehouse had evacuated in the emergency temporary location, and came back this morning at 7:30 a.m., after conformed safety.
The fire also caused shut-down of a 1-kilo-long portion of Guangzhou-Shenzhen expressway .
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
