A peasant in south China's Guangdong Province has been jailed for 10 months for making a hoax telephone call to the police.
Yuan Delun, a 33-year-old resident in Dapu County, told the police that there were explosives packed inside a railway tunnel on February 1.
He called the local police station from his mobile phone after becoming frustrated that all the train tickets from Dapu to the provincial capital of Guangzhou were sold out due to the peak travel season before the Spring Festival.
About 40 police and many patrolmen were immediately dispatched to the tunnel and nearby railway sections to search for explosives.
After 10 hours of searching, it was declared a false alarm.
Yuan was caught by the police that same night after being traced through his mobile phone records.
Yuan told the Guangzhou Railway Court earlier this week that he was not aware he had broken the law by raising the false alarm.
