The Bureau of Statistics of Guangzhou Municipality released first-quarter development figures for 2006 that show Guangzhou achieving an income of RMB 130.463 billion, which represents year-on-year GDP growth of 13.5 percent.
According to the figures, during the first quarter large-scale industries saw sustained rapid growth achieving a gross industrial output of RMB 145.945 billion, representing year-on-year growth of 18.0 percent. The auto, electronic and petrochemical manufacturing industries maintained their rapid growth, particularly the auto industry which grew 39.4 percent.
At the end of March, the total Renminbi deposits held by financial institutions in Guangzhou stood at 1152.41 billion, up 3.9 percent from the beginning of the year.
First quarter income from tourism and tourism-related foreign exchange earnings reached RMB 15.162 billion and USD 608 million, an increase of 15.2 percent and 30.4 percent respectively.
Retail sales of consumer goods for the first quarter totaled RMB 54.431 billion, a year-on-year growth of 12.1 percent.
The figures also showed that per capita annual disposable income of Guangzhou residents has risen by 10.2 percent to RMB 5,945. And, that first quarter per capita spending on services rose by 10.3 percent to RMB 1,395, accounting for 34.75 percent of total per capita expenditure.
