April 5th is Qingming Festival or Tomb-sweeping Day. It is a traditional Chinese holiday that falls on April 5th every year. It is a time for people to remember ancestors, families or loved ones who have passed away.
Usually people will visit graves of their loved ones to sweep away dirt. They will also bring traditional offerings such as chicken, fish, fruit and alcohol. It is expected that over 100,000 people in Guangzhou will go to Guangzhou's major cemeteries for commemoration today. The number of tomb-sweepers is expected to increase to over 200,000 by April 9th.
