Guangdong province is going to set a uniform compensation standard for farmers whose land has been acquired for industrial or commercial purposes, after holding a public hearing.
The requisition of land won't be approved if the sum of compensation less then the lowest compensation standard, announced Department of Land and Resources of Guangdong Province.
Funds would be paid directly to affected farmers using a "real-name payment mechanism", under which most of the land and crop compensation fees, and migration subsidies will be directly paid to farmers in person to avoid capital hold-outs in multi-layered allocation, according to Nanfang Daily.
Guangdong now has about 2.8 million farmers who have lost their land, according to Shenzhen Daily. The province has already begun a trial pension and social security plan for them in Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Dongguan and Foshan, providing social security for 780,000 farmers. And the provincial government will map out a guide for other cities based on the trial plan.
