After being invited to participate in the AMS-02 space experiment lead by the American Chinese scientist Professor Samuel Chao Chung Ting, Sun Yat-sen University has recently made great achievements in the research on the cooling system of the micro silicon bar detector.
The main part of the testing system has now been finished and received full approval from peers in Italy and the Netherlands. Workers have begun to debug most devices.
According to Professor Chao Chung Ting, AMS is the only large-scale scientific experiment at the International Space Station. Currently 500 scientists, 56 universities or research institutes are co-operating to tackle key problems concerning the experiment. Some 1.2 billion US dollars have been invested in the research so far.
He also pointed out that the AMS experiment is of great significance, especially to the future manned space flight to the Mars.
