Guangdong in the past five years has input 271 million RMB to its facilities that prevent and reduce the water-related disasters. Meanwhile, the water monitoring departments are equipped with GPS and other hi-tech systems, which had help the province to fight against the flood in last summer and the salt tides.
Despite its effort, the province is still facing serious water-related problems: the Leizhou Peninsular in southwest Guangdong have been suffering from drought for consecutive years; there is no water quality control system for the Xijiang River (a branch of Pearl River); Zhuhai and Macao may be still facing eatable water shortage this coming winter and the next spring; as summer is coming, the province still need to fight against the typhoon and the flood. Moreover, the work to expand its safe drinking water service to more rural areas.
In 2006 to 2010, the province will input a total of 435.9 million RMB to river-related key projects, water environment monitoring systems, water-testing bases, R&D centers construction, information service systems and stuff-trainings.
