The girlfriend of the Guangzhou man who died of bird flu left hospital at midday Saturday.
The Guangzhou Daily quoted experts as saying the man's death was an isolated case and no case had been found of human-to-human transmission.
The Guangzhou man took ill Feb. 22 and died of avian flu March 2. On Feb. 26, the man's girlfriend surnamed Zhang ran a fever and was quarantined in the Guangzhou No. 2 People's Hospital the same day. She was discharged from the hospital 14 days later.
According to the hospital, Zhang's fever had nothing to do with avian flu but had been caused by a bronchial disease. She recovered with treatment in the hospital. On Friday, the hospital conducted a consultation on Zhang's disease and then made a decision to lifted the quarantine for her. But some experts suggested regular examination of Zhang after her hospital release.
Someone close to Zhang said Zhang did not know his boyfriend had died during her stay in the hospital. The hospital had kept the information from her. The hospital also refused to make known Zhang's whereabouts after her discharge in order not to give her more pressure.
According to reports, the hospital had offered to provide Zhang with psychological consultation in the light of that she had been kept off the information of her boyfriend's death. But Zhang's mother declined the offer.
