According to the Guangzhou Animal Quarantine Supervision Authority yesterday (March 9), the first batch of chickens with a ring verifying their healthy condition will enter Guangzhou markets on April 1st.

The Authorities will first select major local poultry farms for the pilot programme and then promote to all the wholesale markets in the city. The Director of the Guangzhou Animal Quarantine Supervision Authority Fang Zhenggang said that all the chickens of selected poultry farms will be examined and a ring will be worn by healthy chickens on their claws to distinguish them from other chickens.

During the trial period, chickens without claw rings will still be sold in markets and the banning timetable for chicken without the ring will depend on the pilot program¡¯s success.
